Coming Back Into Print: Ludwig Ott’s Fundamentals of Catholic Dogma
Since I know I can’t be the only one who has been trying over the last year to find a copy of Ludwig Ott’s oft-cited Fundamentals of Catholic Dogma, I thought I’d let everyone know what I found out in my search.
First, the book was in print from Tan Books for a while, and from a couple other sources. You could also find a PDF version fairly easily through a Google search. ALL of those sources have dried up, which means that the actual owner of the copyright is doing some policing. That’s a bad sign, in a way, since it means that for now the only editions you can find are the absurdly overpriced used copies from Abebooks or Amazon.
So… I did some research on the copyright and found that it was renewed in 2014 by Patrick Lynch (the translator of the English edition), and this entry was connected with the UK-based publishing house, Baronius Press.
After a quick message to the folks at Baronius, I was told that they are indeed the owners of the copyright and they are working on bringing the book back into print “within this year.”
So there you have it. Keep an eye on Baronius and, judging from the look of their lineup, you might be able to get yourself a much more attractive new edition in comparison to the fairly bare-bones and in my opinion “cheap” version TAN Books was selling.
